Mildred I. Haase, 100, of Sumner, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Memorial services will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Sumner with Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at Wilson Grove Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Memorials may be made in her name to Unity Point Hospice.
Mildred Ida, daughter of Charles and Martha Ohmann was born, March 29, 1916, in rural Hawkeye, Iowa. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and received her education in the country schools of Hawkeye. On July 4, 1937, she was united in marriage with Herbert Haase at the Little Brown Church, near Nashua. For a few years Mildred cooked at a couple local Sumner restaurants and cleaned homes in the Sumner area. After Herb died in 1982, Mildred discovered a few new things out about herself. She learned how to drive and earned her driver’s license. She went on many bus tours with her peers. She enjoyed gardening and baking (especially bread, cookies and cinnamon rolls).
Mildred is survived by her three sons, Paul (Irene) Haase of Waterloo, Raymond (Susan) Haase of Washburn, and Terry (Jom) Haase of Riverside, Florida; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Herb, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Marie in 2011; and son-in-law, Dean Meyer in 2015.
